The 46th District Court and Southfield

Taking it’s name from the south fields of Bloomfield Township, Southfield is home to 71,739 people today. Southfield was officially incorporated in 1958, and spans 26.2 square miles. It shares its borders with Oak Park, Farmington and Royal Oak. The City of Located within the city’s borders, but not a part of Southfield, is Lathrup Village. This small community is home to only 4,000 people and is 1.5 square miles in area.

Landmarks

With it being the commercial center of the Detroit metropolitan area more than one hundred Fortune 500 companies have offices in Southfield. They are housed mostly in the Southfield Town Center, which contains five golden skyscrapers that are visible from I-696. The complex also houses a Westin Hotel and conference center, as well as a 33-story luxury residential complex. Also located in Southfield are the broadcasting headquarters for WXYZ-TV, WJBK, WKBD and WWJ-TV. It comes as no surprise that Specs Howard School of Media Arts is also located in the Southfield area. The school offers a variety of majors that relate directly to broadcast journalism as well as radio, video and film programs.

The City of Southfield is also host to two Detroit area consulates: Consulate of Macedonia in Detroit and Consulate for Iraq in Detroit. The choice made by both Macedonia and Iraq prove how culturally diverse the Southfield area has proven to be in recent years.

Currently presiding over the 46th District Court are Hon. William J Richards, Hon. Shelia R. Johnson and Hon. Susan N. Moiseev. The court serves Southfield, Lathrup Village, Beverly Hills, Village of Franklin, Bingham Farms and Southfield Township.
